everyone who's close to me knows...musically, i brought a little bit of DC with me when i got back to Jamaica. i support underground music and have followed Wale's career from its early stages. he's now pretty much mainstream (which means i'll have to move on! haha). his latest video features Lady GaGa:
kinna cool when you recognize faces, landmarks, and streets on a big budget vid. i've been playing this song for months and didnt realize how looped/repetitive Lady's verse is until the video.

Hipster.
I have a real problem with that word.
Honestly, I have an issue with people misusing words and being completely ignorant to their actual definitions...sorry, pet peeve of mine--but anyway--after a recent conversation with a friend, i decided to look up the definition myself. My friend was convinced that a group of people that we were familiar with are hipsters and i strongly disagreed. I found the definition to be exactly what i expected:
hipster:
-noun, Slang
1. a person who is hip
2. one who is exceptionally aware of or interested in the latest trends and tastes, especially a devotee of modern jazz.
and to me, this definition is the most important:
3. a person (esp. during the 1950s) characterized by a particularly strong sense of alienation from most established social activities and relationships.
so, if you're doing something that everyone else is... :/
Living in this area, its no NY or LA. that being said, there is a beauty and charm all of its own besides the government hoopla. most notably we have Mr. Wale, a little shop that everyone frequents, a few good museums with a few good shows, and a great site that ties everything together.
its around here that i hear this word being thrown around a lot, and i roll my eyes every single time. the "new" hipsters and hype go hand in hand. and hype is just a necessary evil.
